THE FILM

Campy and fun. And a bit weird.

If you love films like Xanadu, Grease or West Side Story, you are definitely going to love...well like...em or more than likely, wonder what just happened when you finish (if you finish) this movie.

In all seriousness, yes it has a few issues but as it turns out, after decades of the movie being almost completely obscure, it LIVES!

With the director James Fargo at the helm and Gil Taylor at the lens, it had some great talent going for it. But there have been many a great film that saw a different fate despite the talent and as we all know, a LOT can go wrong in the post production phase of a film. I believe that to be the case here. With the top investor in the film being involved with post which includes editing the movie, it's fair to say this non-film person MIGHT have been a little over-involved.

But since the advancement of the internet, the movie has found a cult following, making Voyage a cult classic with fans hating and loving the movie at the same time.

THE FACTS

What the hell happened?!

Oh I don't know...did it test poorly? Not even sure it was tested. It did get released throughout Europe but not extensively.

Some say Pia Zadora saw the film and didn't like it, pulling the plug on a domestic release. If you have some info we'd be glad to update this page.

I do know that the Aliens in the movie RHEMA moved on from their recording contract with Curb Records, disbanded for the most part and found careers in music that members are doing to this day.

Jimmy & The Mustangs are no longer together. Both bands lost members to death. Bobby Freeman from RHEMA and Spyder Mittleman and Marshall Rohner all have passed away since the movie.

We'll keep this bit of the site open to change as more info comes in.

The mission

THE MISSION

Prime Directive: Find rock music somewhere in the galaxy.

From the Alien perspective and since the title IS Voyage of the ROCK ALIENS, I can tell you the Aliens knew their mission. Though clearly, the mission was clouded by confusing plot points, serial killers, a tentacle which was presumably attached to some kind of huge monster. (Never seen on screen likely due to the small movie budget.)

The leather-clad band/gang led by Frankie (Craig Sheffer) were ironically what the Aliens should have been out to find but wound up smearing them in a battle of the bands and getting away with the girl (Pia Zadora)

Mission Accomplished?

Not really.

ABSID the Alien leader (Tom Nolan) gets his heart broken, his ship vandalized and that's about it. They leave earth but not before sprinkling Alien Fairy Dust on earth turning the earth band into boy scouts. The Sheriff (Ruth Gordon) into a wind surfer. And Frankie turned into the same ego maniac he was when the movie started. It's quite a journey!
